About Gainesville

Our Gainesville Coffee Training Lab is located inside Sweetwater Organic Coffee's offices, adjacent to the roastery.  All classes at the Gainesville location are taught by Authorized SCA Trainer Hannah Mercer.

Home to the University of Florida Gators, Gainesville is a vibrant college town that loves its hometown team.  Located about a mile from Sweetwater, downtown Gainesville offers a variety of restaurants, bars and music venues that are a treat for students and visitors.  Many restaurants offer vegetarian and vegan options.

What's the weather like in Gainesville?

For most of the year, Gainesville lives up to its reputation as a sunny, Florida town, with temperatures regularly reaching into the 80's and 90's farenheit. Winters are milder and sometimes quite cold, so we recommend you check the weather before you pack for your visit.  That being set, all classes are held in a climate-controlled environment, so once you get to the Sweetwater roastery, you should expect a comfy indoor temperature.

What’s the closest airport?

The closest airport to our Gainesville Campus is the Gainesville Regional Airport - located about a 20-minute drive away.  Several major airlines service the Gainesville Regional Airport.  It’s sometimes possible to save a little money by flying into Orlando International Airport and renting a car, or catching a Megabus Shuttle to Gainesville.  Orlando is located southeast of Gainesville and is about a 1-hour and 45-minutes drive.

What’s the best way to get around Gainesville?

Once in Gainesville, there are multiple ride-share options and a robust transit system, so getting around is easy! Daily passes for the Regional Transit System (RTS) are $3 and available on any bus. Where should I stay when I visit Gainesville?

There are a ton of fun hotels in Gainesville - as well as the standard chains.  We have stayed at and can recommend, the Drury Inn and Suites, Red Roof Inn+, Hotel Indigo, and Home2 hotels.  Great deals can be found on the normal hotel travel sites like Priceline.com, as well as Airbnb. It’s worth noting that you should check the travel time to/from your location before booking.  Morning traffic in Gainesville can get a little hairy sometimes - and some travel times are as long as 25 minutes, even though the distance is only a few miles.
